Long mountain
Loa is long, and the name is exact: Mauna Loa is a shield volcano whose slopes run so gradually that its bulk is hard to see from the ground. It holds roughly half the surface area of Hawaiʻi Island.
By volume it is the largest active volcano on the planet — about 19,000 cubic kilometres of rock.

Mauna Loa erupted in November 2022 after thirty-eight years of quiet, sending lava toward the Daniel K. Inouye Highway before stopping short of it. It has erupted thirty-three times since 1843, and the long pause before 2022 was unusual rather than normal.
