The word is the first of the five that make up the Aloha Spirit as written into Hawaiʻi state law: akahai (kindness), lōkahi (unity), ʻoluʻolu (agreeableness), haʻahaʻa (humility) and ahonui (patience). Each supplies a letter of the word aloha.
